I’ve been thinking of a way to distinguish myself - physically - as an author. When I’ve run into people who know my friend Mary B. Morrison – but not by name – they say, “You know. The author with the blonde [dread]locks.” Or when referring to my friend, Liz Maverick, they say, “The one with the rings and sparkly eyes.”
So … what can I do so that people will remember me?
I’m thinking tattoos and piercings. I saw a woman today with an interesting combination of the two. She had this crimson Marilyn Monroe mole with a diamond stud in the middle. Her lipstick was the exact shade of crimson.
How does this sound? … “That red-lipped author with the red tattooed diamond studded mole who always wears red.”
Nah. Too wordy.
The search continues …
P.S. — On a different note, I’ve launched a blog. There are some fun contests going on, namely a chance to win a 6-month Aphrodisia Book Club Subscription, two unique products in the “What Would You Do With This?” contest, and “Finding Derek,” where visitors will get to vote for THE Derek Mitchell — after I find him. I hope you’ll stop by and check it out.

I think people remember you as “the author who’s beautiful enough to be a model,” Rachelle. Bask in it!
And hey, remind me to show you my tattoo in Atlanta.
Doreen,
destined to be known as “the one who always wears jeans”

Oh, Doreen. I love you! LOL What a wonderful thing to say. Ooooo …[rubbing my hands together] … I cannot wait to see your tattoo.
You know, now that you mentione it, I don’t know if I’ve ever seen you NOT wearing jeans.

Hey, no need to thank me for speaking God’s own truth! I don’t think I can count the number of men I’ve seen “chat you up” when we were out writing. I recall the married man in Borders at Union Square most clearly. He’d “thought about writing a sci fi novel a few years ago” and used that as his conversational gambit. LOL.
I flew into Atlanta for the RWA conference this afternoon, and it’s rain forest weather outside — 90 degrees Farenheit and moisture dripping from the trees. Of course, inside it’s freezing and dry as the Sahara from air conditioning. I’ve already run into a couple of writers I know, and I spotted Jayne Ann Krentz in the food court of the hotel mall. Things are gearing up!
I’m going to try to figure out how to add a photo of my tatoo to mny profile…

For the life of me, I do not remember this instance, Doreen.
It’s scary that you have witnessed so many of the writing esperiences — especially the ones I don’t remember. LOL
I actually thought the weather here was NICER than the South Bay! And I thought your tattoo was great — very unique and such vibrant colors.
